Lemon balm is a lemon-scented herb that comes from the mint family. This herb is native to Europe, North Africa and West Asia but is grown in regions around the world. The compound in lemon balm known as Rosmarinic acid appears to be antimicrobial and possesses antioxidant properties.
Rosmarinic acid is believed to improve sleep quality. Published studies have shown that combining lemon balm with valerian may help relieve restlessness and symptoms of many sleep disorders such as insomnia.
