Material Name(s): Boron from Boron Citrate
Boron is a trace mineral and a micronutrient that plays a significant role in our metabolism. It has a key role in the formation of bones. Boron influences the production and activity of steroid hormones due to how this trace mineral is involved in reducing the loss of calcium and preventing bone demineralization.
Boron supplementation has consistently been shown to reduce the urinary excretion of calcium and magnesium. Boron also positively impacts the way the body uses vitamin D.
Boron is found in non-citrus fruits such as plums, red grapes, apples, pears and avocados, as well as in legumes and nuts. It is also present in significant amounts in coffee and red wine. Dried fruits contain a much higher amount of boron than fresh fruit. Although boron currently is not considered an essential element in the diet of humans, many scientists believe it merits the status as an essential “ultratrace” element.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated a “boron intake” of 1−13 mg / day as an “acceptable safety interval” for adults. Low boron profile has been related with poor immune function, increased risk of mortality, osteoporosis and cognitive deterioration. High boron status revealed injury to cell and toxicity in different animals and humans.
