In this small proof of concept clinical study from 2011, eight healthy male volunteers were assessed for the impact of short- and long-term boron supplementation on various inflammatory cytokines and steroid hormones. Boron in plasma increased significantly following hours and weekly consumption. Six hours after supplementation showed a significant decrease on sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), high sensitive CRP (hsCRP) and TNF-α levels. After one week the mean plasma free testosterone increased and the mean plasma estradiol decreased significantly.
