This placebo controlled, double blind, randomized, cross over study on the effects of lycopene rich tomato nutrient complex (TNC) and lutein, assessed for protection against ultraviolet radiation at the molecular level. The results were assessed for the capacity of the treatment groups to decrease the expression of UVA1 radiation inducible genes. The assumption here is that the genes are indicators of photoaging, photodermatosis and oxidative stress. Results of the study concluded that TNC and lutein offer protection against UV/solar radiation.
