This review published in 2020 summarizes cellular and physiochemical mechanisms of strontium on the bone and controversies relating to supplementation. The review cites the clinical trials using strontium ranelate (SrRan), treatment of osteoporosis [including the PREVention of early post-menopausal bone loss by Strontium ranelate study (PREVOS) and the STRontium Administration for Treatment of Osteoporosis Study (STRATOS), the Spinal Osteoporosis Therapeutic Intervention study (SOTI) and the TReatment Of Peripheral OSteoporosis study (TROPOS)] all of which determined effective dose and effectiveness in preventing new fractures and ability to significantly increase bone-mineral density (BMD) in post-menopausal women.
