Relating to neurotransmission, niacin plays an important role in managing calcium gated channels in neurons. Niacin channels are also widely distributed throughout the central nervous system. Further highlighting its importance, it has been shown that chronic niacin deficiency can lead to neurological symptoms, including depression and loss of memory.
