Menatetrenone, also known as MK-4, is one of the nine forms of vitamin K2. MK-4 has a unique, rapid acting effect in upregulating osteocalcin and matrix GLA, in addition to reducing inflammation and protecting the liver.
Vitamin K is an essential vitamin needed for cardiovascular, bone and liver health. Vitamin K2 is more effective than vitamin K1, the form found in plants, for these specific health effects. Vitamin K2 also stimulates the synthesis of proteins that regulate bone growth and has been shown to reduce the incidence of osteoporotic fractures and improve bone quality. Vitamin K shuttles calcium from blood vessels into bone and tissues, preventing calcifications and hardening of blood vessels.
