Amla, also called Indian gooseberry, has been used for countless years in the ancient Indian medicinal practice of Ayurveda. The berry comes from a tree and is praised for being a potent source of Vitamin C, iron, and calcium.
This wonderful berry is believed to be one of the most powerful foods known to man, providing the body with many benefits. In their natural form, amla gooseberries boast more antioxidants than any other whole food. It has 75 times the antioxidant power of goji berries, surpassing many other superfoods by far. Indian gooseberries have been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic healing and they are praised for having many healthful properties.
Amla has a high polyphenols content, which contributes to its antioxidant powers. Polyphenols such as tannins and gallic acid are found in vegetables and fruits; their antioxidant compounds give plants their color, flavor, and healing qualities. Polyphenols serve as reducing agents and help protect the body’s tissues from oxidative stress and inflammation.
Due to their powerful antioxidant activity, amla extracts protect cholesterol against free-radical damage. Clinical trials have shown amla to significantly improve the cholesterol profile. It may even help reduce blood sugar, making amla a powerful agent for cardiovascular support.
AOR’s Amla delivers the herbs’ many benefits. To boost the healthy aging benefits of amla, AOR uses a standardized extract to ensure maximum polyphenol content per capsule, providing access to an herb that has widespread health benefits.
Amla is an extract of Emblica officinalis, or Indian gooseberry. Amla extract is a source of tannins and other polyphenols such as gallic acid and has long been used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine.*
